Some help for travelling in Germany

Hey guys, I am planning on a Netherlands-Germany-Italy trip in September, but I've stumbled upon a problem with regards to Deutsche Bahn, specifically getting to Weeze Airport from Dortmund on an early Sunday morning.

Details : I'm going with some friends to Dortmund to watch Dortmund vs HSV on the 14th of September, however we also need to be in Florence by Sunday afternoon for Fiorentina vs Cagliari. There's a Ryanair flight from Weeze Airport to Bologna on Sunday morning that leaves at 09:40 - however, even with the earliest D.B train from Dortmund we'll only arrive in Weeze Airport at 08:30, and I would personally like to be at least two hours early at the airport whenever I'm flying, just in case.

Now, there's an alternative of course - sleep one night in Weeze and get a bus at around 07:00 from Weeze to the Weeze airport, but since the Dortmund vs HSV match is at 18:30, I think we would arrive very late in Weeze, about midnight I reckon, and I don't know if there are any hostels that would accept us that late to be honest.

So, even though this post is quite unrelated to Werder, I thought maybe someone could help me out with an alternative:D

Thanks in advance:schal::schal:

Hi powerslave1899,

perhaps the following idea could help you and your friends:

After the match Dortmund vs. Hamburg (finished almost at 20:20 h) you have almost 1 hour to reach the train from Dortmund Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) via Krefeld to Weeze Station (not Airport), departure at 21:21 h, arrival at 23:14 h. The Airhostel is located almost 6 km from the station (at this time only reachable with taxi but in the case of the short distance it should be not so expensive) an only 700 m from the airport terminal away . The information desk of the hostel is open till the check-in of the last passenger of the latest flight up to at least 23:30 h and the hostel can be leave on depature day at any time.

Thanks for the response mate, that sounds like a good idea. The only "challenge" would be to get to the Hauptbahnhof on time - since we would have to go pick up the luggage from the hostel in Dortmund. Since I'm assuming that the Hostel we're going to book is located centrally, or at least somewhere between the stadium and the Hbf, we shouldn't have too much problems going from the stadium to the hostel to the Hbf. Since German public transport is quite efficient (compared to Malta's), it shouldn't be too much of a challenge:p

Thanks again man!

Hopefully I'll be planning this stuff for an April trip to Bremen as well, for the IFW, then again I still remember most of Bremen's bus/tram stations/stops (Domsheide, Sebaldsbrück, Osterholzer Heerstrasse, Am Wall, Benningenstrasse and so on) so I shouldn't have too much problems:D Since I learned the bus and tram lines I also won't have to spend 20 euros on a taxi now:lol:

Should be not a big problem. At the Central Station are many lockers to store your luggage and with the Regionalbahn (RB = local train) you need only 5 minutes from the Stadium to the Central Station - in regular traffic, after a match you should need a little bit more time.

I suppose you don't really know the Deutsche Bahn, because delays belonging to the Deutsche Bahn like Santa Claus to Christmas.

:D:bier:

Whoa really? Didn't know about this locker thing, so I guess we can hire a locker before the match, go down to the stadium and then go back to the Hbf without having to go the the hostel again? Neat, that would be very helpful for us!
I never travelled with a train so far, apart from trams and subway trains, so excuse my ignorance with regards to train-travel and train stations:lol:

No unfortunately I only used Lufthansa to travel within Germany (München - Bremen and Bremen - Frankfurt) so far, but at least the bus/tram system in Bremen was very efficient at least in my opinion, I was very impressed. You should hear the German tourists in Malta complaining about our bus service, it's so unbelievably bad

Yeah, that's right.

German tourists in foreign countries are often mortify: f.e. in the early morning they put their towels on the best placed chairs to reserve them or complain about serveral things when they are not so good or fast as demand.
